“Rimbunan Hijau [is] involved in significant forest crime.” a Greenpeace report concluded. “It is destructively logging vast areas of ancient forest in defiance of national laws … It is causing large-scale environmental damage and increasing the poverty of local people under the protection of political elites.”

"According to a report by the World Bank in 2006, as much as 70 per cent of logging in PNG is carried out illegally. In 2000, an independent review commissioned by the PNG government of some of Rimbunan Hijau’s operations concluded that several of them had been awarded illegally."

Open Challenge COP10 Cloud Conference Competition

What's COP10? If you don't know you are probably in good company. Do you like food? What's more important Sarah Palins toe nail color or Global Biodiversity. Well if you are like me not knowing anything about COP10 is embarrassing.

The google is dissapointing #googlefailWikipedia COP10 Fail 20090706 145451COP10 FriendFeed Search Fail 20090706 145627

FriendFeed search yields almost no results next to nothing.  But actually this will affect each and every one of us. So COP10 is the United Nations Framework on the Convention on Biological Diversity. All the world's leader are going to get together and vote on a Treaty in Nagoya Japan In November.

You have heard of the Kyoto Protocol, well the next COP11 is on Global Warming. "The year 2010 is designated as the International Year of Biodiversity by the United Nations. It was decided at the COP9 held in Germany in May 2008 that the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be held in the City of Nagoya, Aichi prefecture, Japan, in this milestone year." How are these people going to come to agreement? What is the data set that they are using to reach their conclusions? So here is my challenge to you.

Step 1 Knowledge Competition, increase the velocity of usable relevant knowledge for people participating in decision making at the COP10. I suggest mashing something up in Yahoo Pipes.

Step 2 Cloud Conference Competitions. Produce a persuasive set of artifacts, papers, presentations which explain what is COP10 and what we should or should not do and Why.

The prize is an "Attaboy", and we will be very grateful to learn about COP10 Biodiversity and the effects.
