On Dec. 28, 2008 from McMurdo Station. This Prototype Balloon was launched.
"This seven-million-cubic-foot super-pressure balloon is the largest single-cell, super-pressure, fully-sealed balloon ever flown. When development ends, NASA will have a 22 million-cubic-foot balloon that can carry a one-ton instrument to an altitude of more than 110,000 feet, which is 3-4 times higher than passenger planes fly."
This image, was captured by a telescope. Balloon are cheaper than satellites and the payload can be recycled.

Have you ever felt a disturbance in the force. Can you mine peta bytes of information and munge data in real time. I was stunned to learn the Guy Kawasaki doesn't use FriendFeed. I thought it was Ubiquitous. If you havent done it just stop reading and get your stack going. I gave a Presentation on this a few weeks ago. So signup for Friendfeed, Twitter, GoogleReader, Yahoo Pipes, Alltop, and throw in Delicious.
What it does, Get all the RSS and Atom feeds into Google Reader. Yahoo Pipes can aggregate your favorite topics for you. Alltop is great to pull in the top bloggers. I like the Project Management Section. Once you are all signed in than unleash the secret weapon. the sith sense is Feedly. It munges your Google Reader Account. It pulls in what is hot, Ie bookmarked, dug, twitted and pumps that content up in a clean beautiful page. Which is nothing cool. Whats so cool is how you can spelunk into the data stream in realtime, you get a little Java script button in the bottom of your Firefox window. it will show you a RealTime FriendFeed search of a topic. you can understand how the information is being consumed. how is it being shared. Next cool thing is the Karma feature. The karma feature is connected to your twitter account. if you have a clickable link in a tweet it will show you your karma. how many times your link gets shared across the twitterverse. So if you want to have an agent strip search the petabytes of blogs on the net for you, munge the data by pushing great content up, allow you to analyze how the content is being consumed. Share it across the Social networks. Twitter FreindFeed, even this service called Facebook and many more obscure ones. But the best thing is when people actually, take a plunge in the swimming pool on FreindFeed and Discuss it.
The Inspirational Jacques Cousteau
We are all in the same boat. Jacques Cousteau is our role model. He shows us how we can aspire to something far greater than any single individual can accomplish. Please take some time to http://friendfeed.com/list/cop10 think about COP 10. COP 10 is the extension of Jaques Cousteau's beliefs. The draft planning document has just been released on July 8th. Lets study this document together.
Lets do something. Lets look at COP 10 from Jacques Cousteau's perspective. Thanks to all those who have worked to create the concept of COP 10. And thanks to all those who are going to spend some time thinking about BIO-Diversity.

“Rimbunan Hijau [is] involved in significant forest crime.” a Greenpeace report concluded. “It is destructively logging vast areas of ancient forest in defiance of national laws … It is causing large-scale environmental damage and increasing the poverty of local people under the protection of political elites.”
"According to a report by the World Bank in 2006, as much as 70 per cent of logging in PNG is carried out illegally. In 2000, an independent review commissioned by the PNG government of some of Rimbunan Hijau’s operations concluded that several of them had been awarded illegally."
COP10 is a meeting of 7000 people around the globe. It is an official United Nations Conference of the Parties. which requires contracting parties to "significantly reduce the rate of loss of biological diversity by 2010
What's COP10? If you don't know you are probably in good company. Do you like food? What's more important Sarah Palins toe nail color or Global Biodiversity. Well if you are like me not knowing anything about COP10 is embarrassing.
FriendFeed search yields almost no results next to nothing. But actually this will affect each and every one of us. So COP10 is the United Nations Framework on the Convention on Biological Diversity. All the world's leader are going to get together and vote on a Treaty in Nagoya Japan In November.
You have heard of the Kyoto Protocol, well the next COP11 is on Global Warming. "The year 2010 is designated as the International Year of Biodiversity by the United Nations. It was decided at the COP9 held in Germany in May 2008 that the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be held in the City of Nagoya, Aichi prefecture, Japan, in this milestone year." How are these people going to come to agreement? What is the data set that they are using to reach their conclusions? So here is my challenge to you.
Step 1 Knowledge Competition, increase the velocity of usable relevant knowledge for people participating in decision making at the COP10. I suggest mashing something up in Yahoo Pipes.
Step 2 Cloud Conference Competitions. Produce a persuasive set of artifacts, papers, presentations which explain what is COP10 and what we should or should not do and Why.
The prize is an "Attaboy", and we will be very grateful to learn about COP10 Biodiversity and the effects.

This is an insightful look at planning steps for bloggers. It provides nice visual examples.
